Services available to gifted learners:
Listed below are examples of services available to gifted students at our school. Placement into any of these programs will be based upon each individual student’s circumstance. Each student has his/her own special needs which may or may not include one or more of the following:
In-class differentiation – Student will remain within the classroom, but will have assignments adjusted to provide adequate challenge
In-class enrichment – Student will remain within the classroom, but will be given alternate assignments to replace the content he/she has already mastered.
Pull-out enrichment – Student will join other gifted students in the gifted resource room in an enrichment study within their strength area.
Independent study – Student is given the opportunity to pursue and interest through research. This may be accomplished either within the classroom or in a pull-out situation.
Acceleration of subject – Student is moved one or more grades higher in a single subject area.
Acceleration of grade – Student is moved one or more grades higher across all disciplines.
Online classes/Distance learning – These classes are available when appropriate accommodations cannot be made with the current staff at Norwood Schools.
Dual credit classes – Classes are offered to qualifying high school students to obtain both high school and college credit for classes taken.
Special classes, clubs, or competitions when offered – These special activities will usually take place after school hours. Some examples include Knowledge Bowl, Music/Art competitions, Math competitions, Chess Club, Destination Imagination, National Honor Society, etc.
